Dobra Nadzieja officially adopts the division regulations | News

GOOD HOPE – On Monday, June 10, the city of Good Hope approved “new” subdivision regulations.

Mayor Jerry Bartlett said the guidelines in the ordinance are already a type of unofficial regulation used by the city.

“We’ve been using them forever, but we can’t find a place where we’ve ever officially adopted them,” Bartlett said.

City Planner Corey Harbison said the regulations largely directly reflect the minimum requirements that developers throughout Cullman County must follow.

“We have a set of minimum requirements for zoning development throughout the county,” Harbison said. “We basically took what the county had and that’s our ordinance.”

Harbison said Good Hope has made minor modifications to county regulations regarding the type and size of water mains developers must install.

Where Cullman County requires a standard minimum pipe size for all developments, the Good Hope ordinance states that city officials can use their variance in determining the size of pipe that can be installed, depending on the scope of the project.

Also unlike Good Hope County, it does not allow the installation of metal pipes.

“These metal pipes take about 20 years to rust and then we’ll have to replace them, so we’ll need plastic pipes,” Harbison said.

Because the ordinance doesn’t actually change anything from the city’s existing regulations, the council decided to suspend the regulations after holding a public hearing to immediately approve its adoption, rather than hold a second public reading.
