MiCare announces new CEO – Australian Aging Agenda

MiCare – a company specializing in providing care to older adults from culturally diverse backgrounds – has appointed Penni Michael as its new CEO.

Since joining the organization in 2012, Ms. Michael has held several roles at MiCare – which provides aged care, home care and retirement home services – including her current role as deputy CEO.

With over 25 years of work in the aged care and community care sector – which includes experience in process development, policy analysis and research – Ms Michael has played an active role in advocating for the need for culturally and linguistically diverse care in Australia.

Following her appointment, Ms Michael said: “I feel honored and privileged to have been appointed CEO and thank the board for their support.”

She added: “I believe the leadership team and MiCare have exceptional skills, knowledge and experience and we will continue to put the customer at the heart of everything we do. I look forward to working with all our stakeholders at this important time of change in aged care.”

Ms. Michael replaces longtime MiCare CEO Petra Neeleman, who is retiring after 33 years of leadership.

Petry Neeleman

Ms. Neeleman’s association with what is now MiCare began in 1986. She was named CEO in 1991. “I have had many wonderful opportunities and great moments as we have achieved what we set out to do, which was to build meaningful relationships that impact the lives of our clients and each other,” Ms. Neeleman said.

During Mrs. Neeleman’s farewell, the chairman of the board, Jos van de Ven, welcomed Mrs. Michael to the position. “We look forward to the next chapter of MiCare,” he said.

Ms. Michael will take up the role of CEO on July 12.
