Directors appointed to Racing Victoria board

The Allan Labor government has finalized appointments to the Racing Victoria board with two new directors tasked with strengthening the state’s racing industry with decades of leadership, business experience and excellent management expertise.

Racing Minister Anthony Carbines today congratulated Mark Player and Tim Rourke on their appointments.

Mr. Player has over 25 years of experience in the racing industry and is currently the Executive Chairman of Macedon Lodge, an equine training facility.

He is also the founder and director of Weanling Solutions, which provides advice on the purchase and marketing of thoroughbred horses.

He was previously head of international sales and development at the Hong Kong Jockey Club and previously served as director of equine business development at Racing Victoria.

In 2011, Mr. Player also founded International Thoroughbred Solutions, a consulting firm providing strategic advice on investing and managing thoroughbred animals.

Since 2013, Mr. Rourke has served as CEO of CitiPower and Powercor, and in May 2017, he also became CEO and Managing Director of United Energy.

Previously, he held the positions of general director at GE Energy Infrastructure Australia and New Zealand and regional director for Asia-Pacific at GE Aero Energy. Rourke currently serves as a director on the boards of Energy Networks Australia and United Energy.

He is also a keen racing enthusiast, with extensive ownership and breeding interests in the Victorian Thoroughbred racing industry.

The council will now appoint a director as chairperson for approval by the Minister, and will also elect a vice-chairman, with an announcement to be made later this month.

As stated by Racing Minister Anthony Carbines

“Mr Player has dedicated his career to the development of the racing industry – he is internationally recognized as an expert in the field whose knowledge and experience will now benefit Victorian racing.”

“Mr Rourke’s passion for thoroughbred racing, his highly regarded expertise and leadership in the business world, and his ability to build strong relationships will be a tremendous asset to the Racing Victoria board.”
