Microsoft continues to add new features, such as account management from the Start menu and more, in Windows 11 Build 26236.

Microsoft continues to make new Windows 11 features available to testers in the Windows Insiders Program Canary Channel. This latest release follows last week’s Insider 26231 build and offers a moderate amount of new things to try.

Please note that while you can test new features before anyone else as an Insider, especially Canary Channel, the builds contain some bugs and known issues. We don’t recommend running an Insider build on your main production machine. Instead, use a spare computer or run them in a virtual machine.

That said, let’s take a look at the new features and what else you can expect from Canary Channel Build 26236.

New features in Windows Insider Build 26236

One of the general changes includes a small set of general improvements and fixes that improve the overall experience for Insiders running the build on their systems.

The Start menu is getting an update with the introduction of a new account manager on the menu. When you sign in with your Microsoft account, the improved design allows you to quickly see your account benefits. Additionally, it allows easy access to manage account settings. It will also let you know when you need to take account action to help secure your Microsoft account.

Fixes and known issues included in build 26236

As mentioned, Insider builds contain bugs and Microsoft is committed to fixing them. This build includes a fix for an issue that caused the taskbar to not appear for some users.

We also fixed a fundamental issue that prevented Microsoft Edge from maintaining its preferred audio volume after restarting the app. This issue appears when you go to Settings > System > Sound > Volume Mixer.

Known issues in this build

Microsoft notes that the following known issues can be expected when using this Insider version:

(General)

  • (IMPORTANT NOTE) We’re investigating reports that some Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels are stuck on build 26040 or build 23620. However, the investigation is ongoing if this applies to you and you really want to access the latest build in the Canary or Dev channel today – here you can download the latest ISO, perform a clean install, and re-enable your device to display in the Canary or Dev channels.

(Task Manager)

  • (New) We are investigating an issue where the colors in the Performance section are not displayed correctly in Dark Mode.

Windows 11 is constantly improving

Although this version of the Insider build on Canary Channel contains a small number of new features, the company continues to develop new versions and fix known issues. For detailed information about build 26236, read the Microsoft blog post for the latest release.
