Shopping.io now allows FTM holders to shop online at Amazon and Walmart

The Fantom Foundation has integrated with e-commerce platform Shopping.io to enable shoppers to purchase goods from major online retailers using Fantom’s native token, FTM.

Starting today, FTM holders can now use their tokens on Shopping.io to purchase items from many popular retailers, including Amazon, Home Depot, eBay and Walmart.

The move to allow FTM holders to make online purchases using cryptocurrencies marks a “coordinated move to facilitate mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies,” according to the platform, which so far remains the only international cryptocurrency platform that allows users to spend cryptocurrencies on e-commerce sites.

Shopping.io founder and CEO Arbel Arif spoke about Fantom’s ability to further encourage the adoption of cryptocurrency payments.

“Fantom is one of the most renowned and exciting platforms in the space, and we couldn’t be more excited to provide this integration,” he said.

“With their significant community support, we strongly believe this is a big step towards cryptocurrency adoption and evolution.”

Cryptocurrency payments have become increasingly popular in recent months with heavy integration of payment service providers such as Visa and Mastercard, as well as WhatsApp, Tesla and JPMorgan also exploring cryptocurrency payment options.

A number of other brands, including online retailer SHOP.COM, cinemas and hotels, have also started accepting cryptocurrency payments.

According to research by PYMNTS, an estimated 46 million cryptocurrency holders currently plan to make purchases using their digital assets, and another 42 million non-owners are considering purchasing cryptocurrency for future purchases.

However, despite the increased demand and use of cryptocurrencies, over 50% of cryptocurrency owners say that not enough online merchants accept payments for digital assets.
