Governor Newsom announces nominations 6/13/24

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom announced the following appointments today:

Ian Bastek of Roseville has been named deputy director of response in the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. Bastek has been a Captain and Commanding Officer, U.S. Coast Guard, Air Station Sacramento, as of 2021. From 2019 to 2021, he was a Captain/U.S. Coast Guard and Liaison Officer for Joint Task Force East for the U.S. Coast Guard, NORAD, and USNORTHCOM. Bastek was the Commanding Officer Liaison and Executive Officer at the U.S. Coast Guard Aviation Training Center from 2018 to 2019, and was the Commanding Officer and Operations Officer there from 2016 to 2018. He was commander and chief of the Fixed-Wing and Sensor Division at U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters, Capabilities Directorate within the Office of the Air Force from 2014 to 2016. From 2012 to 2014, he was lieutenant commander and long-range surveillance aircraft platform manager at Coast Guard Command United States, Capabilities Directorate, Office of the Air Force from 2012 to 2014. Bastek was a Lieutenant Commander and focused on HC-144 standardization Branch Deputy Branch Chief at the United States Coast Guard Aviation Training Center from 2008 to 2012. He was a Lieutenant Commander , Chief of the Department of Flight Safety, Fixed Wing Flight Safety Officer and HC-130H Duty Pilot at U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City from 2004 to 2008. Bastek was Lieutenant HC-130H Duty Pilot, Ground Safety Office, budget of facilities and contracts at the US Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point in 2000–2004. He was a junior lieutenant and student pilot with U.S. Coast Guard Sponsored Flight Training from 1999 to 2000. Bastek was a junior lieutenant, deck watch officer and law enforcement officer with the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Planetree from 1997 to 1999. He is a member of the National Gay Pilots Association, Military Officers Association of America and Coast Guard Aviation Association. Bastek earned a master’s degree in aerospace science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a bachelor’s degree in management from the United States Coast Guard Academy. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the salary is $175,596. Bastek is a democrat.

Edward Bómbita of Mililani, Hawaii, has been named commander of the California Cybersecurity Integration Center in the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. Bómbita is the deputy director of the Identification Data Management Team at U.S. Fleet Cyber ​​Command/10. United States Fleet from 2023. In 2019–2023, he was the deputy officer in charge of the special operations team at the US Army Cyber ​​Command. Bómbita was a Cybersecurity Task Force Administrative Officer and commander of Cyber ​​Defense Team 171 in the California National Guard from 2016-2019. In 2018, he was a shift manager and analyst at the California Department of Technology’s Security Operations Center. Bómbita was a team OIC with the 780th Military Intelligence Task Force Echo in 2017–2018. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business information systems from California State University, Fresno. Jonathan Snow of Rocklin has been named deputy director for homeland security in the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. Snow has served as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation since 2022. Snow served on an interim basis in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2021. He has served as the Director of Compliance/Chief Security at the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Bureau of Investigation since 2018 r. Snow was Assistant Special Agent in Charge of Intelligence and Operations at the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 2018 to 2022, and was his supervisor there from 2016 to 2018. Snow was a special supervisory agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s counterintelligence investigation team from 2015 to 2016, and was the division chief in 2015. From 2003 to 2012, he was a special agent in the National Security and Violent Crimes Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. From 2001 to 2002, Snow was a team programmer at Alcatel Fiber Optic Cable Systems. In the years 1998–2001 he was production manager at SI Corporation. Snow was environmental sales and service manager for Circle Environmental from 1997 to 1998. In the years 1994–1997 he was a technical engineer at Amoco Fabrics and Fibers. Snow earned a B.A. in textile engineering from North Carolina State University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the salary is $175,596. Snow is a Democrat.
