Sunview Group will build 600 MW photovoltaic plants in eastern Uzbekistan

Malaysian energy company Sunview Group has signed a development and cooperation agreement with the Uzbek Ministry of Energy to build two large-scale photovoltaic power plants with a total capacity of 600 MW in eastern Uzbekistan, as well as battery energy storage systems (BESS). Sunview will therefore be responsible for the design, engineering, procurement and construction of a 400 MW PV plant coupled to a 100 MW/200 MWh BESS plant in Andijan District, as well as another 200 MW PV plant coupled to a 100 MW/200 MWh PV plant 50 MW/50 MW/ 100MWh BESS in Fergana district.

At the end of 2023, solar energy represented only about 1% of Uzbekistan’s installed capacity at 253 MW. Currently, there are approximately 800 MW of photovoltaic capacity in the country, and over 2.4 GW is under construction. In January 2024, Uzbekistan set itself the goal of achieving 27 GW of renewable energy capacity and 40% of electricity production from renewable energy sources by 2030 (against 2.5 GW and 7% in 2023).
