Lagos Duty Manager Youth Innovation – Voice of Nigeria

Nigerian youths were advised to develop innovative skills that can propel them to take on leadership roles and solve the attendant problems for a better world.

The Lagos State Chief of Service (HoS), Mr. Olabode Agoro, gave the admonishment while speaking at the re-launch of the Isheri Primary Health Centre, an initiative endorsed and funded by Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA Team Impact) fellows.

Agoro said youth must play a key role in government policies and demonstrate passion for ideas that can spur economic development, stressing that the Academy cohort should be commended for these feats while encouraging other young people in the country to emulate these achievements.

“Youth should emulate what the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy group did, which is to take up projects, finance them and commission them.

“We are looking for young people who will become part of the government, who will join the government, because if you do not join the government, you will not have an influence on policy-making, entering local government, the state civil service and the public service.

“Together you are the future, we need people we can delegate power to, we need them at the local, state and federal levels, we need them in the system so that things like this can continue to be promoted,” he said.

Improving health care

The Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mayor Samiat Bada, has appreciated the Academy for its commendable program aimed at improving healthcare services for residents of the area.

She also commended the efforts of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy Obafemi Hamzat in ensuring grassroots development in health, tourism and transport, among others.

Talent showcase

The project team leader, Michael Ogunkoya, appreciated Governor Sanwo-Olu and his team for enabling them to bring out their hidden talent.

Ogunkoya said before their intervention, the recommissioned clinic lacked good structure and sustainable energy systems, but its current appearance is remarkable, which will breathe new life into the delivery of health care services to the people of the area.

According to him “Today I am pleased to announce that we have installed a photovoltaic inverter system, modernized the structure and introduced electronic medical record (EMR) systems.”

In addition to renovating the health center, fellows also organized medical relief and campaigns against domestic violence, including in the Ikosi Isheri communities in Lagos.
