Duke Energy will allocate $100,000 this summer to help low-income Hoosiers manage home energy costs

  • Over the past five years, Duke Energy’s Share the Light fund® provided more than $3 million in aid that helped sustain more than 10,000 Indiana households

PLAINFIELD, Ind., June 14, 2024 /CSRwire/ – Duke Energy customers in Indiana who may be struggling to pay their energy bills can now apply for financial assistance of up to $300. The company announced today that it has committed an additional $100,000 through the Share the Light Fund to help individuals and families in need.

“As temperatures rise, these funds will help ease the burden of energy costs on those who need it most,” said Stan Pinegar, president of Duke Energy Indiana. “We want to remind customers who may be having trouble paying their utilities to contact us about bill management options, including interest-free payment plans.”

Duke Energy is working with the Indiana Community Action Association to distribute funds to eligible customers to help them pay their energy bills, security deposits and reconnection/connection fees. Individuals should contact their local community action agency to see if they qualify. Click here to find a list of service providers by county.

Over the past five years, Duke Energy, its employees and customers have provided more than $3 million in bill assistance through the Share the Light Fund, which has helped support more than 10,000 Indiana households.

Duke Energy offers more than a dozen energy assistance and bill reduction tools, including:

  • Usage alerts that send customers notifications about how much electricity they use and its costs, so they can make changes before the end of their billing period
  • Free Home Energy House callsin which energy specialists assess a home for efficiency and provide owners with a toolkit of energy-saving devices
  • Budget settlements, which helps alleviate the impact of higher seasonal bills by smoothing out your monthly payments
  • Without interest payment plans for customers who need flexibility
