NEW DELHI: D. Thara, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, on Friday asked the real estate industry to fully prepare to meet housing challenges in the next five years by reverting to old practices and preparing for investments in rain harvesting and creating play areas for children in their housing estates. Additionally, she placed emphasis on providing cool, solar-powered paths. She spoke at the third NAREDCO Mahi convention. Thara also urged the real estate and housing industry to gear up for the construction of affordable housing units as per the practices envisaged by the new NDA government.

According to her, the political establishment and political class of the current dispensation have such clear ideas that the modern bureaucracy is well equipped to implement and execute government policies, especially in the field of social improvement.

The Additional Secretary was also of the view that investment in rain harvesting projects should be the primary infrastructure plan for the private sector in housing complexes, especially in the affordable housing sector.

G. Haribabu, President, NAREDCO, lamented that the real estate sector still does not have as many women entrepreneurs as needed for its potential as their share is still around 8-10% while in other professions, such as medicine and nursing, the participation of women reaches almost 40% of the total capacity. Therefore, it is time for every real estate player to consider increasing the number of women in the real estate sector.
