Bill Gates discusses the impact of artificial intelligence, reassures software engineers and reflects on connections with India

Gates expressed optimism about the potential of artificial intelligence, particularly in education and productivity.

Co-founder of Microsoft Bill Gates recently joined Zerodha founder Nikhil Kamath on the debut episode of Kamath’s podcast series “People by WTF”. During the 30-minute conversation, Gates discussed a range of topics, from his early days at Microsoft to the transformative impact of technology artificial intelligence (AI) in various industries, especially software engineering.

Gates expressed optimism about the potential of artificial intelligence, particularly in education and productivity. He highlighted successful AI projects in India and the US that show that AI can serve as educational teachers and increase productivity at work. “The amazing thing about this technology is that we know it can help in key areas,” Gates noted, emphasizing the positive potential of artificial intelligence if used to increase workplace productivity.

Addressing concerns about artificial intelligence displacing software engineers, Gates assured listeners, dismissing such concerns as “alarming.” He highlighted the continued demand for software engineers despite advances in artificial intelligence. “We still need these software engineers because we’re not going to stop needing them,” he said, offering comfort to those in the industry concerned about job security.
