Animal Killing: Animal Killing Laws on Bakri Eid in Surat | Surat News

Surat: Various government departments issued notices and letters on Monday in connection with the killing of animals during Bakri Eid. Residents advocating ‘ahimsa’ call it an important move. The city police commissioner has banned the killing of animals in public and private places, except in areas designated by the city civic body. If the report is violated, the police will take legal action. Similar orders were issued by the district tax office. The orders prohibit the killing of animals in public or private places in areas of Surat district outside the city limits. In a letter, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) market supervisor has asked the city police to patrol the bypass flyover to prevent people from witnessing the happenings at the slaughterhouses. There have been incidents in the past where people recorded videos of slaughterhouse activities from the flyover and these videos later went viral. Members of the Surat Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) have expressed concerns over the practice of killing animals during the festival, which hurts the sentiments of people. The SPCA said in its letter that people also took animals in processions before being sacrificed. “In the past, similar orders were issued by different departments. But they stopped for a long time and some took advantage of it. Therefore, we have approached government offices and asked them to take action in due time.” said SPCA member Ashit Gandhi.
