Modernization of factories producing medicines and medical devices to world-class standards: Center

The Department of Pharmaceuticals has directed the authorities to ensure that all drug and medical device manufacturing plants are upgraded to global standards in the next three years.

The directive was issued by Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda along with MoS (Chemicals and Fertilizers), Ms. Anupriya Patel during a review meeting chaired by them on Saturday.

Officials provided a detailed overview of the pharmaceutical and MediTech sector and detailed the Department’s activities, including the regulatory framework and programs implemented by the Department.

The minister stressed the need to focus on the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047 and also reviewed the five-year program and 100-day action plan. The five-year plan would focus on enhancing drug safety, Aatmanirbharta for medical devices, expanding Jan Aushadhi scheme and ensuring affordability of medicines and therapies to citizens.

The Union Minister also directed that there should be a renewed focus on quality in the next three years and that all drug and medical device manufacturing plants should be upgraded to global standards.
