EDP ​​​​”We choose Earth Tour” June 20 at The smarter E

A smarter E Europe in Munich will be the stage for global dialogue on a sustainable future for the planet on June 20 during the second edition of the “We Choose Earth Tour”. The event is organized by the utility company EDP (Energias de Portugal) and will bring together thought leaders from the public, private and social sectors in a debate aimed at inspiring collective change for a more sustainable future for our planet.

Outstanding speakers

Cate Blanchett and Ban Ki-moon will be the main speakers at this year’s edition of the event.

Cate Blanchett, actress, producer and Climate Solutions advocate, is the co-creator and co-host of Climate of Change, a podcast featuring interviews with experts and special guests discussing the biggest challenges facing humanity in the climate crisis. Cate is also a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

Ban Ki-moon is the former Secretary-General of the United Nations, known for mobilizing political leaders to address global challenges such as prioritizing sustainable development, urgent action on climate change and the energy transition. Ban Ki-moon has played a key role in promoting international cooperation on environmental issues and in negotiating key agreements such as the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He was also named one of the world’s 100 best thinkers by Foreign Policy magazine and named one of Forbes’ most influential people.

Vincent Stanley, a prominent figure from Patagonia, a company known for incorporating nature into its business model, will also be present at the event. With its line of sustainable clothing, the brand engages in various sustainability initiatives. Alex Honnold, renowned professional mountaineer and founder of the Honnold Foundation, has focused on accelerating the development of solar energy in disadvantaged communities around the world; and KjellNordström, a distinguished Swedish economist, writer and speaker internationally recognized for his extensive work on globalization, entrepreneurship and innovation.

Miguel Stilwell D’Andrade, CEO of EDP, and Vera Pinto Pereira, the company’s executive director, will also be present to discuss topics critical to a rapid and just energy transition. Joining the dialogue will be Sandrine Dixson-Declève, co-president of the Club of Rome, and Patricia Espinosa, former executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The presence of Michael Liebreich, renowned clean energy expert and CEO of consulting firm Liebreich Associates, and Joschka Fischer, former German Foreign Minister, will provide valuable perspectives on renewable energies and sustainable policy. The second edition of the conference

By organizing the second edition of this conference, EDP aims to further promote debate on the crucial moment facing society and how a rapid and just energy transition can contribute to a more sustainable planet.

This edition of the “We Choose Earth Tour” will take place in Munich as a parallel Smarter E-Europe event. Munich is a strategic location in Europe and one of the main cities where EDP is developing its renewable energy activities.

EDP ​​​​with ambitious ecological goals

EDP ​​entered the German market in 2022 by acquiring Kronos Solar EDPR, a German solar developer. Germany is one of the countries where EDP will see the greatest development in the next three years – by 2026, approximately 500 MW of photovoltaic projects will be at various stages of development and construction.

EDP, a pioneer in the renewable energy sector with over 85% of its production coming from renewable sources, is committed to a just energy transition. The company has set ambitious goals, including: achieving 100% green by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2040.
