‘It’s a year of failure’: Sam Amadi criticizes Tinubu for poor policy making and implementation

  • Amadi himself criticizes President Tinubu’s administration for its weak starting staff and lack of necessary technical and ethical knowledge
  • Amadi lamented the president’s background and appointment of people with corruption cases, which showed a failure to signal a new beginning and ethical governance
  • Amadi points to the administration’s policy reversals and contradictions, particularly in economic policy

FCT, Abuja – Sam Amadi, a prominent political analyst, has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing its first year in office as a failure due to poor policymaking and implementation.

This follows recent disturbing statistics showing that the country’s economy is currently shrinking, requiring urgent help.

Reacting to the above indicators, Amadi, with whom I spoke exclusively Legit.ng on Saturday, June 15, he stressed that the government’s foundations were flawed from the beginning, citing insufficient staff at the highest levels.

He said:

“In my opinion, the Tinubu administration has not done well. The government was poorly constituted in terms of its top-level staff;

“From the Chief of Staff to the Special Advisers, we have not seen the quality of technical and ethical expertise required today to deal with Nigeria’s complex and complicated problems.”

Ethical and corruption concerns

Amadi also criticized the administration’s ethical standards, noting that Tinubu’s background raises corruption concerns.

Amadi argued that the president had failed to signal a new beginning with his nominations and policy statements.

“The president himself came with baggage, some baggage of corruption issues, and had to signal a new beginning both through the people he brought into government and through the policies he advocated.

“We have not seen this clarity in the government’s ethical approach; rather, ethical signaling was worse. “We saw the Senate President and the appointment of ministers who were clear with the EFCC.”

Inconsistency and contradictions in politics

Amadi further criticized the administration’s policy formula, calling it inconsistent and contradictory.

He highlighted two key economic policies – maintaining the naira exchange rate and removing subsidies – as examples of poorly executed strategies.

He stated:

“The current policy formulation has been inconsistent and at times contradictory. The manner in which the two main economic policies – naira liquidity and subsidy withdrawal – have been carried out suggests a lack of depth in policy thinking and indicates a lack of pragmatism in policy management and perhaps confusion everywhere.”

Policy reversal and ineffectiveness

The frequent policy reversals were also a point of contention for Amadi, who called the actions outrageous and embarrassing.

“We have witnessed repeated policy changes and, at times, outrageous and embarrassing moments in policies formulated today and then withdrawn again.

“I think the last year has been a showcase of inconsistency and ineffectiveness in terms of policies to address the crisis, whether it was security, economic stagnation or even a lack of national unity. So it’s a year full of failures.”
