FG is pleased to see two Nigerians receive international nominations |

The Federal Government has welcomed the appointment of two Nigerians: Dr. Umar Oseni as the first new Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Nigeria and Dr. Akolisa Ufodike as Deputy Minister of Trade, Immigration and Multiculturalism in Alberta, Canada.

Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa informed the FG about the position.

A statement by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols of the Commission, described the two Nigerians as distinguished personalities who have brought glory and fame to Nigeria.

Dabiri-Erewa said both appointments showcase the pedigree of Oseni and Ufodike as experts in their various fields committed to advancing national and continental development.

She urged them not to rest on their oars but to continue to soar higher with the intention of motivating and mentoring more younger generations who will look up to them.

The NiDCOM boss, who said the two appointments were well received, noted with joy that it fits perfectly with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at ensuring the upliftment of Nigerians in the country and beyond.

Dabiri-Erewa prayed for the successful tenure of both Oseni and Ufodike in their global assignments.

The 42-year-old Edo State native, Dr. Oseni, as an Assistant Professor of Law at the International Islamic University, mentored future talents and scholars who are now Assistant Professors and Associate Professors in various universities around the world.

In addition to being a Harvard-educated certified negotiator and dispute resolution expert, he has consulted with numerous bodies in the areas of Islamic finance law and regulation, bringing together an excellent combination of significant academic and industry experience in Islamic finance law.

As one of the three most prolific authors in Islamic finance and related fields worldwide, with over 110 publications on Islamic finance, law and related fields, he has published extensively in respected journals and books on Islamic finance and law.

Prior to his current position, Dr. Oseni was Executive Director of Legal and Compliance and later served as Acting Director General of the same global intergovernmental body.

He is recognized internationally as a leading scholar of Islamic financial law and is the recipient of numerous global awards.

Dr. Ufodike is an Assistant Professor in the School of Government, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, University of York, specializing in auditing.

His research interests include public administration, governance, accountability, diversity and inclusion, actor networks and the public sector.
