Mira Kapoor on her favorite skincare devices, launching a beauty brand and more

A new brand of celebrity cosmetics has appeared on the estate. But what makes Mira Kapoor’s skincare brand, Akind, one of a kind lies in its philosophy that encourages us to listen to our skin rather than dictating to it what we need to get better skin. along with Kapoor’s in-depth knowledge of the complex world of skin care. She herself is not the type of person who is fooled by beauty trends and the abundance of information on the Internet. Snail slime, one of the most viral skincare ingredients, couldn’t please Kapoor, while LEDs and microcurrent were among her favorite skincare devices.

Now, she’s teamed up with Tira Beauty to create Akind, which recently debuted with three ranges – one focused on building, one on balance, and the last on defense. To celebrate her new venture, we sat down with her to discuss all things skincare.

GRAZIA: How has your skincare journey evolved, from the beginning to now?

Mira Kapoor: It was quite a journey. I remember growing up seeing my mom take care of her skin, and that meant, you know, using a lot of kitchen ingredients, milk and stuff like that. And then when I was in my teens and early twenties, I had a lot of acne and it really worried me. And then, over time, I realized that OK, now I’m left with acne scars and discoloration, so I want products that actually work. High performance. Ingredients. A product that can do more than one thing. So I think it covers quite a broad spectrum in terms of starting very gentle and then expecting good results. But the essence remained the same, i.e. minimalism, listening to the skin and faithfulness to my philosophy.

G: What skin care lessons did you learn from your mother?

MK: I inherited everything from my mother, but above all it is, well, minimalism. To look like my natural self and be myself, but most importantly, to be happy because I see her. She embraces herself. She embraces her skin, accepts her imperfections and is very happy about it.

G: What viral skincare ingredient would you never use and why?

MK: There are so many. Honestly, there are so many viral and popular ingredients and so much noise around. One I would never use – snail mucin. Not for me.

G: Skin care devices are all the rage right now. Would you say they are worth the hype? Are there any devices that have worked for you?

MK: You know, skin devices, I think they’re a hit. If you find the right one, it can be a game changer. I love LED masks with red light. I think it is a great addition to daily care. Microcurrent is another favorite of mine.

G: What skincare essentials are always on your top shelf?

MK: You will find Akind on Cloud 9 Moisturizer. This is my favorite moisturizer. It is light but very moisturizing. It’s simply a great ending to your daily skin care routine. No-shave sunscreen base because it is the perfect complement to makeup, as it is also a base. One of my favorites is the Get Even serum because it tackles dark spots and blemishes while adding just a bit of shine.
