Union Minister Baghel emphasizes on technology transfer to the farming community

BHUBANESWAR: Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Professor SP Singh Baghel on Sunday laid emphasis on technology transfer to the farming community to improve farm productivity and income.

During his visit to ICAR – Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), he said that on-farm research will play a significant role in making India a developed country.

He reviewed the institute’s research activities in the field of freshwater aquaculture and the progress of work on central sector programs in animal husbandry and fisheries implemented in Odisha.

The Union Minister was informed about over 23 different varieties of fish such as genetically improved rohu, jayanti, catla, shrimp, small carp, catfish, murrell, anabas, pearl clam and various aquaculture systems such as pond farming, bio-floc and aquaponics.

Various gadgets, feed formulas and medicinal products developed by the institute were also presented. CIFA Director PK Sahoo gave a presentation on current research activities and vision 2047. He also briefed the Union Minister about the institute’s 100-day action plan.

The minister planted a tree at the institute and visited CIFA’s agricultural facilities. The review meeting was attended by officials from the state fisheries and animal resources development department.
