The Croatian energy market operator, HROTE, has announced a public tender to provide market support for renewable energy projects.

The energy auction first announced in April and supported by an investment of 257.2 million euros ($275.6 million). The tender only supports new projects with a total capacity of 607 MW: 450 MW of solar energy, 150 MW of wind and 7.25 MW of hydroelectric power plants.

According to the tender documentation, a bonus of up to EUR 67.05/MWh was established for photovoltaic projects with a capacity above 1 MW. A bonus of up to EUR 82.04/MWh is available for solar plants with a capacity of 200 kW to 1000 kW or for plants with a capacity of 200 kW to 6 MW if the project is wholly owned by a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) or renewable energy energy community.

The maximum incentive per project is EUR 30 million. The tender started on June 12 and will last until June 27. It is second auction since Croatia introduced market premiums to support renewable energy projects in mid-2020. The first auction for large projects took place in 2022 to acquire 638 MW of new capacity. Bonuses were awarded to projects with a capacity of 107 MW, including only 8 GW of photovoltaics.

Croatia added 238.7 MW of solar energy according to data from the Croatian Renewable Energy Sources Organization (RESC), which gives a total capacity of 462.5 MW.
