INWireless charging doesn’t provide as much freedom as the name suggests – aalthough it technically allows you to charge your device without connecting a cable, that’s it. True wireless charging isn’t that far off though, as today Ossia announced a partnership with Archos to release the first gadgets that can be charged wirelessly using true wireless charging technology. They will be available next year.

Way back at CES 2016, our minds were blown by Ossii’s first demonstrations Cota Real Wireless Power technology. For most of us, wireless charging means placing your smartphone, wireless earbuds, or smartwatch on a small pad to charge them. This is more convenient than messing around with a cable, but it still means that these devices have to be abandoned for a few hours to fully charge them.

The true wireless power that Ossia’s Cota promises allows your device to start charging when it is near a wireless power transmitter. You can walk into a room with one of the transmitters installed (it can be hidden behind ceiling tiles or hidden behind furniture) and your smartphone will immediately start charging on its own, whether you’re actively using it or buried in the ground. pocket or bag.

You can find a more detailed explanation of how to power Cota wirelessly technology works here, but one of the biggest challenges in making it available to consumers is that the devices require a special RF receiving chip to access wireless power transmissions. Until other companies agreed to put the Cota chip in their devices, Ossia was creating a secondary market improvements such as Smartphone case compatible with CotaOr AA friendly Cota that can be installed in devices that use replaceable batteries.

The first public demonstrations of Cota took place almost five years ago, but today Ossia finally revealed the first collection of gadgets that will be compatible with Cota out of the box. ANDand even if the French company Archos is not widely known, it is another step in the right direction for this innovative technology.

Pricing and exact availability have yet to be finalized just ahead of the 2022 ETA, as are the final designs of these devices, but Archos promises at least four Cota-compatible gadgets next year: a wireless indoor camera that can be installed anywhere without worry battery life, air quality and temperature indicators, a smart tracker that will automatically charge when you get home, and a smartwatch that can be worn all day and all night indefinitely, making it useful for tracking both activities during day, as well as behavior during sleep.

These four devices won’t necessarily change the world, but they will help demonstrate the usefulness and flexibility of Ossia’s Cota technology and hopefully inspire other device manufacturers to jump on board. But that’s all assuming Ossia finds a way to make the Cota wireless power transmitter affordable too.
