Raleigh will vote on new changes to the parade rules

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – On Tuesday, the Raleigh City Council will vote on new parade rules that will allow the return of motorized vehicles.

The city authorities presented the regulations to the parade organizers about two weeks ago.

The regulations would require vehicles to be inspected within 30 days of the event, drivers would have to be at least 25 years old, and meetings with parade participants would be required, among other proposed changes.

City council voted to ban vehicles following the death of 11-year-old Hailey Brooks during the 2022 Christmas parade.

Brooks’ family filed a lawsuit against parade organizers and others. It does not include the name of the city of Raleigh.

The city said staff looked to other municipalities and organizations across the country for best practices. They also met with several parade organizers to obtain their comments and recommendations.
