McDermott selected by Abraxas Power for Canada’s first commercial green hydrogen and ammonia production facility

HOUSTON , June 17, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — McDermott has signed an early contractor engagement (ECI) agreement with Abraxas Power Corporation for the Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation (EVREC) project located in central Newfoundland.

The project represents Canada’s first commercial green hydrogen and ammonia production facility and will involve the construction of a wind farm consisting of up to 530 turbines, capable of generating 3.5 gigawatts (GW) of electricity and 150 megawatts (MW) of photovoltaics (PV). The installation will be able to produce 165,000. tons of hydrogen and 5,000 tons of ammonia per day.

Under the contract, McDermott will provide engineering design (FEED), engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) execution planning and open book EPC costing services for the project’s hydrogen production, ammonia processing and product storage.

The work will be conducted by McDermott’s Houston office with support from its Gurgaon, India office.
