Upper Peninsula Power Company announces intention to bring 100% renewable energy to the region by 2040.

Last Wednesday, Upper Peninsula Power Company announced its commitment to plans to meet sustainable energy solutions requirements required by state statute over the next 16 years. By 2035, UPPCO aims to shift 60 percent of its energy supply to renewable energy sources. Complete the region’s transition to renewable energy by 2040. CEO Grandon Haehnel says UPPCO recognizes the critical role clean energy plays in building a brighter, more sustainable future in Michigan. Going forward, we will commit to responsible decision-making that leverages the power of renewable and clean energy resources to meet the changing needs of the region’s communities.

UPPCO will work with Enel X Advisory Services to launch a competitive and transparent RFP for the region’s energy landscape. Enel X advisory services enable businesses and communities in the United States, Canada and Mexico to develop renewable energy strategies. UPPCO plans public engagement on this issue in the fall as it prepares for the next version of its integrated resource plan.
