Major ‘ShapesXR’ update improves collaborative XR prototyping and provides a web-based editor for PC users

Application for spatial design and prototyping ShapesXR (2021) has just released a 2.0 update that better streamlines cross-platform support, allowing team members to edit and collaborate more easily both in mixed or virtual reality, but now also on the web.

ShapesXR Version 2.0 today includes a number of new features to enhance the cross-platform app, which supports not only Quest 1/2/3/Pro and Pico 4, but now also standard flat-screen devices with the addition of a web editor for joining users with a mouse and keyboard.

Check out all the upcoming stuff ShapesXR 2.0 below:

Improved UI/UX : Shapes have been completely refreshed with a completely new interface that takes advantage of exceptional depth and materials. The information architecture has been simplified to increase ease of use and learning.

Interactive prototyping: New triggers and actions have been introduced to help designers explore more robust interactions, enabling them to leverage button presses, physical touch, and haptic elements to design dynamic and immersive spatial experiences.

Surround sound prototyping: Users can now import sounds and add surround sound to interaction triggers, creating more immersive experiences and prototypes that win arguments and greenlights

Procedural primitives and a new resource library: A new library of fully procedural primitives provides users with a wide range of 3D models and templates to create.

Customs inspector: The custom inspector allows for precise adjustments, optimizing the design process.

Performance optimization: Significant optimizations ensure smoother operation and faster load times, improving overall performance.

Flexible entry handling: The new architecture and user interface supports any type of input, including controllers, hands, mouse and keyboard, making the design process smoother and more intuitive.

Released in 2021, ShapesXR founder and CEO Inga Petryaevskaya calls the addition of the new web editor “a strategic move to increase the time users spend in the product and enable co-design and editing with people who don’t have an XR device.”

For starters, many VR studios have taken advantage of this ShapesXR over the years, they have built their apps together, including the mixed reality piano learning PianoVision, the physics-based VR roller coaster CoasterMania, and the XR molecular design platform for the drug discovery and materials science industries Nanome. You can check out the company’s full list of case studies here.

The app is free to download on supported platforms, in both free and subscription versions. ShapesXR The free plan includes basic creation tools, three editable spaces, 150Mb of cloud storage, a 20Mb file import limit, the ability to import PNG, jpg, obj, glb and gITF files and export glTF, USDz and Unity files.

Both the Team and Enterprise plans include unlimited editable spaces, matching cloud storage expansion, and a host of other features that should appeal to larger teams looking to integrate ShapesXR in their workflow. You can check all subscription plans here.
