Federal politics live: Energy Minister Chris Bowen criticizes lack of costs and modeling in Coalition nuclear plan

Glenn ButcherLabor MP for Gladstone, Queensland, said the federal opposition’s proposal to build a nuclear power plant at Callide Power Station was “fantastic”.

“It’s absolutely ridiculous what they come up with,” Butcher said.

“The costs associated with these districts are certainly much higher than anyone might expect.”

He said he didn’t believe Central Queenslanders wanted a nuclear reactor near their homes.

“Where we sit today in Rockhampton and where I come from, in Gladstone, within a few hundred kilometers of one of the nuclear reactors, I just don’t think that’s what the people of Central Queensland want,” he said.
