East Side Madison Plant Needs More Regulation, Not Less – Steven Klafka

The ghost of former Governor Scott Walker has come to my East Side neighborhood.

Department of Natural Resources proposes release Madison-Kipp Company. and its die-casting factories wedged between our homes, a registration-type air pollution permit. This blanket permit would eliminate the current site-specific permit, which has unique recordkeeping, testing and inspection requirements.

Reminding us of this dangerous situation, Kipp had another fire on June 5. Neighbors reported a plume of smoke with an incredibly chemical smell rising above their heads. Due to its location, Kipp is clearly not a good fit for our area. But why move when the city’s zoning conditions are lax and now the DNR is offering a free pass to pollute?
