The Indian state of Rajasthan is allocating land for the construction of solar power plants with a capacity of 3 GW

The government of Rajasthan (western India) has allocated land for the development of nearly 3 GW of photovoltaic capacity. The state has allotted 4,780 hectares of land to the Rajasthan Solar Park Development Company for the construction of three solar parks in Bikaner district with a total capacity of 2.45 GW (two parks of 1,000 MW and one of 450 MW). Additionally, NTPC Renewable Energy has been awarded 910 hectares for a 500 MW solar project in Phalodi district. Completion of these projects is scheduled for 2026, and the government will offer a 33% subsidy for their development.

At the end of 2023, solar and wind power accounted for almost 24% of India’s installed capacity, 73 GW and 45 GW respectively, while hydropower capacity reached almost 52 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel production capacity to 500 GW. In 2023, coal still accounted for 53% of India’s power generation (over 265 GW) and 72% of its electricity production (1,347 TWh).
