DNV launches solar asset modeling platform Solar Resource Compass in Europe

Solar Resource Compass is an advanced software service that provides users with access to DNV’s high-quality solar resource data and energy yield forecasts, online and on-demand. It is powered by two other DNV products: SolarFarmer and Solcast. SolarFarmer is DNV’s flagship energy modeling platform for utility-scale solar projects, providing reliable and reliable energy yield forecasts based on comprehensive validations carried out over the last five years. Solcast is DNV’s weather data service that provides high-resolution and accurate historical and forecast weather data for anywhere in the world, using satellite imagery and advanced machine learning algorithms.

By combining SolarFarmer and Solcast, Solar Resource Compass provides users with a unique and advanced online service that can provide indicative energy production estimates for any solar project, including comparison of multiple irradiance data sets and calculation of site-specific losses for dust and snow.

DNV’s Energy Transition Outlook forecasts that from 2025 onwards, almost all net new capacity addition will come from fossil-free sources. Between 2022 and 2050, wind and solar energy growth are projected to increase tenfold and seventeenfold, respectively. However, one of the key challenges facing the solar industry is the unprecedented scale required to deliver a low-carbon energy grid. DNV is committed to enabling its customers to scale so that they can accelerate the energy transition, ensuring a greener grid.

DNV’s digital solar products aim to provide technologies that deliver on this commitment. Over the past two years, DNV customers have evaluated over 10,000 projects in the Solar Resource Compass program in the United States alone. Solar Resource Compass APIs have also enabled customers to introduce automation into their internal workflows, enabling them to scale their operations without having to scale their teams.

“The Solar Asset Compass has become an invaluable resource in our work,” said Josh Tatel, director of technical asset operations at Generate Capital. “SRC enables our team to conduct technical due diligence on 3-5 times more solar assets than we could otherwise do. As a neutral third-party assessment, the SRC helps detect any gaps in assumptions much earlier in our diligence process, avoiding surprises or material changes at closing.”

DNV’s Solar Resource Compass online tools aim to transform the solar industry by providing unprecedented access to solar data and analytics.

Solar Resource Compass is available free for a limited time. Users can also upgrade to a premium subscription, which offers additional features and benefits such as unlimited simulations, API access, and support.
