The sheriff’s office is warning against skimmer devices that can be found in local stores

HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. – The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office is issuing a community alert.

According to the department, skimmer devices were located in multiple stores in the Lexington area.

What is a skimmer?

The sheriff’s department says “this is a device that a criminal will use to hide a device that will allow them to access your debit, credit or EBT card and steal money from your accounts.”

The department warns that card readers should always be checked and if they appear tampered with, they should not be used and the store owner should be informed.
