Head Rush Technologies has recalled approximately 2,200 Trublue iQ automatic belay devices for climbers sold in the U.S. due to fall risk. The recall also affects approximately 254 devices sold in Canada.

According to a release from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recalled auto-belay device may not retract, creating a fall hazard and a risk of injury or death.

Head Rush Technologies, based in Louisville, Colorado, has received 31 reports of sniffing disorder incidents, including one consumer fall. No injuries were reported.

The product was sold online at headrushtech.com from November 2022 to February 2024 for between $2,800 and $4,600.

There are consumers he asked stop using withdrawn devices, and contact Head Rush Technologies for a free inspection and repair.

The Trublue iQ is gray in color with blue handles and a gray sash on the front cover. Trublue IQ+ has a front clip brake. LT iQ and iQ+ versions have blue markings above the blue tape handle; XL versions have a purple label.
