New vehicle parking policy, pink cars in Chennai

The Tamil Nadu government on Friday announced that a new vehicle parking policy will be framed for Chennai. Housing and Urban Development Minister S. Muthusamy said this would address the issue of parking requirements due to the increasing number of vehicles in the city.

Social Welfare Minister P. Geetha Jeevan announced that the state government would introduce ‘pink cars’ in the city to ensure women’s safety and encourage them to start businesses.

She said 200 women drivers would be given a subsidy of ₹ 1 lakh each.

She said these pink cars equipped with GPS modules will help women commute safely from train and bus stations. The program will benefit women drivers with valid driving licenses. The government would make it easier for them to get loans from nationalized banks.
