Navigraph announces new traffic sector overlays

This afternoon, Navigraph used their space on the FSExpo main stage to announce Charts’ newest feature – road overlays.

The new feature, deemed a “most requested feature” by the team, will enable users to view ATC sectors on maps, current VATSIM and IVAO controller connections, and other Navigraph users.

You can also interact with other users by clicking on their aircraft icon, which displays information about flight path, aircraft type, altitude and speed. All pilots visible on the map, regardless of whether they are Navigraph/VATSIM/IVAO users, are displayed with a refresh rate of every 1 second.

This feature is yet to be released and according to the team on the scene there will be a lot of work in building the system over the next “few months”, but some of the ongoing work includes dividing the displayed VATSIM sectors so that if (for example) you fly to London and there there are 3 London controllers online, you will know which of these 3 to contact without guessing.

The vertical profile feature was also briefly mentioned towards the end of the presentation – although few details were given about it other than it was something the team was working on. This new feature would allow the vertical layout of ATC sectors to be displayed so that the user would know where to fly in controlled airspace if possible on their route.
