OU regents approve the budget, new degrees and appointments

ARDMORE – The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents met in Ardmore today to approve a fiscal year 2025 budget that prioritizes affordability and strategic investments.

OU President Joseph Harroz Jr. emphasized the university’s commitment to providing a quality education, noting a significant increase in need-based aid and scholarships, resulting in 56% of undergraduate students graduating debt-free.

The regents reaffirmed their commitment to academic excellence and financial accessibility as part of the “Lead On, University” strategic plan. The approved budget includes a 3% tuition increase for undergraduate and graduate students on the Norman campus and at OU Health Sciences, with a 4% to 5% increase for professional programs.

The budget supports merit-based raises for faculty and staff, increased stipends for graduate assistants, and infrastructure upgrades. OU’s efforts resulted in record freshman classes and increased research spending, positioning the university for continued success.

New study programs, including Ph.D. in materials science and engineering, a bachelor’s degree in engineering analytics, and a master’s degree in health care administration pending final approval by the Oklahoma State Regents of Higher Education.

Additionally, new academic appointments include Andrea Miller as dean of the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication, Anna Carpenter as dean of the College of Law, Melissa Medina as dean of the College of Pharmacy, and John Antonio as dean of Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy. Mackenzie Wilfong has been named executive secretary of the OU Board of Regents. The next board meeting is scheduled for September.
