Afghanistan’s industrial sector will expand with over 120 new factories in 2024

Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, spokesman of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Afghanistan, revealed that 121 factories have been established in various sectors in 2024. Moreover 217 production machines were imported by industrialists for use in the heavy, light and primary sectors.

Jawad emphasized that in 2023 614 factories have been established and 1098 machines have been imported. These data show a clear increase in investment and production activities in the country.

The Afghanistan Chamber of Industry and Mining noted that providing more facilities to industrialists could lead to significant growth in the country’s industry. Sakhi Ahmad Paiman, first deputy of the Chamber, emphasized the importance of supporting heavy and light industries energy supply, land distribution, AND increased customs duties for similar imported goods.

Economic experts emphasized the need for greater support for industrialists. Economic analyst Shakir Yaqubi suggested that subsidies, energy supplies and small loans could significantly strengthen manufacturing factories. Shams Rahman Ahmadzai, another economic analyst, highlighted the problems of land and electricity shortages faced by these factories.

Over 5,000 factories from various industries currently operate in 18 industrial parks throughout the country. These developments are moving Afghanistan towards self-sufficiency and self-sufficiency in certain sectors.
