Approves the nomination of six monarchs
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State yesterday threatened to fire any member of his cabinet who performs below expectations.

The governor, who read out the riot act to members of the State Executive Council on service delivery, said he had set up a monitoring and evaluation unit to assess the performance of cabinet members quarterly.

Adeleke, who addressed the first meeting of the State Executive Council in 2024, directed council members to “redouble” their efforts to deliver services to citizens, saying 2024 was a critical year for the administration.

A statement signed by state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment KolapoAlimi quoted the governor as saying that we will reach the midterm “by December.” We must act quickly in implementing our sector plans. You all have to work hard in your various ministries to achieve your goals.

“I would like to inform you that I have established a discreet monitoring and evaluation team whose task is to prepare quarterly reports on ministries and evaluate the work of cabinet members. Even if you did not sign a performance bond when you took office, you will be evaluated on your service performance from now on.

“We will not hesitate to remove anyone from office who fails to meet their responsibilities based on monitoring and evaluation reports.

“As we begin our governance activities in 2024, I urge Cabinet members to maintain a united front. The government is one united family with equal rights and privileges for its members. This is an issue determined in accordance with best practices. Competition and segregation in government must end immediately.

“I also want to urge cabinet members to focus on serious state issues and not on lobbying around issues of personal gain. I always told you without numbers, before and after the visit, that we had to make sacrifices. We must offer what we can do for our country, without asking what our country can do for us. This is the path of patriots.”

The statement also revealed that the state government has approved the appointment of six new traditional rulers, among whom is Haastrup Adeola Ojo as the Aloro of Iloro-Ijesha.

The Governor, while congratulating and wishing the newly appointed traditional rulers for success and peaceful governance in their domains, urged all subjects in their communities to give the newly appointed traditional rulers the best support and cooperation they deserve.

He said all appointments and increments would be effective immediately.

The council, however, abandoned consideration of Kok’s royal position, directing an investigation and correction of alleged irregularities and irregularities in the selection process.
