FE Report
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has issued draft harmonized guidelines for the use, inventory, marketing and import of radio equipment to simplify the licensing process.
The recently published draft will be finalized after consultation with stakeholders.
According to BTRC, citizens and stakeholders are invited to submit recommendations and suggestions on the draft guidelines by June 30.
According to the draft guidelines, there were several types of licenses covered by various guidelines and directions, including Directive on Import of IoT Devices from Bangladesh, 2.4 and 5.7 GHz Band Services Instruction in Bangladesh, Radio Equipment Importer for Radio Equipment.
Relevant guidelines were earlier formulated by the committee on import, use and marketing of various types of radio equipment such as two-way radios, walkie-talkies, routers, IoT devices, mobile phones, broadcasting equipment, etc.
There are also different types of entry fees, referred to in different guidelines, depending on the type of services and the commercial activities of the company.
As there are different guidelines depending on the type of wireless and radio device, the service provider concerned had to face various complications when submitting an application to the Commission in accordance with the guidelines.
BTRC said the illegal use of wireless devices and wireless devices is increasing due to lack of awareness among users of wireless devices.
To simplify all these complications, uniform guidelines have been developed, integrating the commission’s guidelines, while at the same time the existing guidelines will be considered ineffective from the date of issuance of this guideline,” the draft reads.
The draft states that all related licenses must take into account licenses previously issued after final approval of these guidelines.
However, these licenses required the import and use of radio and wireless equipment in accordance with the licensing requirements and do not require a new license under these guidelines.
Individual users also do not need a license if they use it solely for themselves.
The license period for radio equipment will be two years.
