Don advocates for the adoption of entrepreneurship and skills acquisition to combat unemployment

Nigerian youth are urged to develop entrepreneurship and acquire skills to overcome unemployment.

Vice-Chancellor of Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, ​​led the training in Okada, Edo State during the 9th Entrepreneurship Program (EP) Exhibition and Fair of the university, a project in which 300 students of the university are participating.

Ezemonye stated that entrepreneurship development and skill acquisition are key to the development of the country, calling on the over 739 students of the 2021/2022 academic session who graduated from the institution’s entrepreneurship and skill acquisition center to ensure that what they acquire is affordable and accessible. He noted that the process of entrepreneurship development helps new companies or ventures better achieve their goals, improving the business and economy of the country.

The Vice-Rector added that the combination of acquiring knowledge and skills has made graduates of this university the most sought after, because before graduating they benefit from contacts between industry and academia, and are also better prepared for life after graduation, thanks to several coaching and stationary training courses, which strengthens entrepreneurship, development and knowledge.

He noted that so far, a total of 6,218 students have participated in third-year entrepreneurship and skill acquisition training as part of the university’s curriculum to promote entrepreneurship development and skill acquisition.

“The university’s role in promoting an entrepreneurial culture among students and staff is crucial to the country’s development. Entrepreneurs have the power to shape the world by developing versatile skills and profitable business programs essential for human development,” Ezemonye said.
