Amazon Considers Upgrading Alexa to Include…

Amazon is reportedly looking to refresh its Alexa voice assistant service with conversational AI-generating capabilities as it looks to better compete with chatbots from companies like Google and Microsoft.

Reuters reported that the tech giant may offer Alexa under two new tariffs, with the highest one possibly costing up to $10 per month, which will be separate from the Amazon Prime fee.

The news outlet reported that this will be the first major overhaul of the service since it launched a decade ago under founder Jeff Bezos.

The updated voice assistant can be called “Alexa Extraordinary.” Reutersbut the internal codename is “Banyan”.

The tech company plans to launch Remarkable Alexa in August. As the news outlet noted, Amazon CEO Andrew Jassy has a personal interest in the project.

Despite its early mover advantage, Alexia never turned a profit and was eclipsed by new AI-powered chatbots.

The company is also reconsidering the development of additional Alexa-enabled devices to extend Alexa’s reach to additional rooms or use them for purposes such as tracking home energy usage
