Opposition parties in the state encouraging the Centre’s policies, claims the Kerala Association of Non-Governmental Organizations

The Kerala Association of Non-Governmental Organizations has accused the United Democratic Front-led opposition of encouraging the policies of the Union government that ignores the federal laws of the state government.

In a resolution adopted on the last day of the three-day state conference in Kozhikode on Monday, the union said the BJP-led government was trying to dismantle the civil service sector in the country by implementing neoliberal economic policies. The state government has tried to strengthen the sector by introducing alternative policies and protecting the rights of government staff. At the same time, legal action should be taken against corrupt officials. The state authorities implemented new technologies to make the civil service effective and corruption-free. To this end, the assistance of all organizations representing government personnel was crucial. However, the union claimed that some opposition politics often supported the Center. The resolution called on trade unionists to intensify their fight against the anti-people policy of the Center.

Meanwhile, Center of Indian Trade Unions state secretary KN Gopinath said that the BJP is unable to get a majority in the Lok Sabha on its own in the recently held elections due to the agitation of workers and farmers against the opening of markets in the country. He opened a meeting of trade union leaders organized together with the state conference. Gopinath alleged that the Union government was giving a red carpet welcome to private capital at a time when other countries around the world were abandoning the concept of free markets.

The Center consistently supported globalization policy. Mr. Gopinath pointed out that only concerted efforts of trade unions could stop the implementation of such policies. He said the Congress, the main opposition party in the country, was also an advocate of this policy and it should be corrected. Among those present were: officers of pro-left organizations such as the Kerala School Teachers’ Association, the Joint Council of State Service Organizations and the Bank Employees’ Federation of India.
