Investment in Nigeria’s agricultural sector is key to economic growth, says Deputy Consul General of the Netherlands Van Der Stijl

Leonie Van Der Stijl, Deputy Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Lagos, stressed the crucial importance of investing in the Nigerian agricultural sector. She said: “Investing in Nigeria’s agricultural sector is crucial for economic growth,” emphasizing the Netherlands’ commitment to supporting economic partnerships with Nigeria.

In an interview with ARISE NEWS on Monday, Van Der Stijl noted that “trade relations between our countries are solid and mainly focus on commodities such as oil, gas and agricultural products such as cocoa, sesame seeds and cashews.” – Van Der Stijl he stressed, highlighting Nigeria’s potential to expand commercial sales in these key sectors.

Addressing the challenges faced by Nigerians traveling to the Netherlands, Van Der Stijl discussed the visa application process, noting: “The visa application process is rigorous but fair, with an average processing time of three to four weeks.” She stressed the importance of visa compliance in countering the growing problem of fraud related to fake invitations.

“In addition to economic connections, cultural exchanges between Nigeria and the Netherlands are flourishing, and Nigerian music and fashion have a significant impact on Europe,” Van Der Stijl emphasized. She also mentioned joint efforts on climate change initiatives.

“The recent waste-to-energy project between Harvest Waste and the Lagos government in collaboration with a Dutch company,” she said

Van Der Stijl’s remarks highlighted the ongoing cooperation and mutual benefits between Nigeria and the Netherlands on the economic, cultural and environmental fronts, highlighting opportunities for further growth and development in the bilateral relationship.
