Gautam Adani highlights sectors where $1 trillion worth could be unlocked

India is opening markets in energy and digital sectors that could unlock $1 trillion in yet-to-be-tapped resources over the next decade, billionaire Gautam Adani said at the 32nd annual general meeting of Adani Enterprises Ltd. on Monday.

The president of the port-to-power conglomerate emphasized the importance of using the renewable energy chain in his speech to shareholders.

In May, Adani Green Energy Ltd. secured $400 million in financing from a group of five leading international banks for 750 MW of solar projects under construction in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Thanks to this company and Adani Energy Solutions Ltd., Mumbai has become the first megacity where over 30% of energy consumption comes from renewable sources.

The group also recently launched a 30 GW renewable energy park in Khavda, Gujarat. This project alone will increase the group’s total renewable energy capacity to 50 GW by 2030.

In his speech, Adani also touched on the green data centers needed to fuel the AI-driven data center boom.

Supplying electricity to power-hungry data centers has become an issue as artificial intelligence and related platforms become more popular. The Adani Group plans to invest over $100 billion in the energy transition sector over the next decade, further expanding its integrated renewable energy chain, Adani said in a recent keynote address at a Crisil event.

AI data centers will need between 100 GW and 150 GW by 2030, he added. Adani said the Adani group, which has India’s largest data center order book, is uniquely positioned to deliver such gigawatt, green, AI-powered data centers.

He also talked about the electrification of mobility and the EV revolution for cleaner air.

In April, Adani TotalEnergys E-Mobility Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Total Gas Ltd., and MG Motor India signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen electric vehicle charging infrastructure in India. As part of the collaboration, ATEL will install 60 kW DC CC2 chargers at future MG Motor dealers to improve the charging network and increase availability for customers.
