CERATIZIT Sustainability Rating Silver

EcoVadis awarded CERATIZIT a silver sustainability rating, while Plansee received a gold sustainability rating. The company, which describes itself as the largest and most reliable provider of corporate sustainability assessments in the world, appreciates the consistent sustainability strategy of both companies. For companies, the award is an incentive to further increase their commitment.

Commitment to environmental, social and ethical issues is an important factor in the business success and future profitability of companies. A key condition is transparency of the company’s current status and goals in this context. CERATIZIT and Plansee are pursuing ambitious goals as part of their sustainability strategy, and the first milestones have already been achieved. To validate this strategy for others and for themselves, companies commissioned EcoVadis to assess their commitment to sustainability. The sustainability rating provider has now certified CERATIZIT with a silver rating and Plansee with a gold rating.

Ambitious sustainable development goals – climate neutrality by 2050 at the latest

Both companies, part of the Plansee Group, are important players in the refractory metals and cemented carbide production chain. Products play an irreplaceable role in industry and society, which is a challenge because the process of producing them is energy-intensive. CERATIZIT and Plansee are aware of this responsibility and make every effort to achieve their sustainability goals as quickly and effectively as possible.

One of the most important goals of CERATIZIT is to be CO2-neutral by 2025 by reducing emissions by 35%. By 2040, the strictest greenhouse gas reduction target is to be achieved by reducing emissions by 90%. to net zero. Plansee wants to be CO2-neutral by 2030 and net climate neutral by 2050.

Main Lever: CO2-free hydrogen for production plants

CERATIZIT and Plansee need hydrogen for production. Until now, hydrogen at their headquarters in Reutte was produced from natural gas, which accounts for 50 percent of CO emissions2 emissions on site. The companies are currently installing a hydrogen electrolyzer at their facilities, which from 2025 will cover half of the hydrogen demand of production plants.

The electricity needed to operate this electrolyzer comes entirely from renewable sources. By 2025, CERATIZIT and Plansee will be able to halve local emissions from hydrogen production at the Reutte plant; by 2030, all hydrogen production in this country is to be based on CO2-free.

Andreas Lackner, spokesman of the CERATIZIT management board, explains: “The silver rating awarded by EcoVadis confirms that we are on the right track with our ambitious commitment to sustainability. In addition to our efforts to achieve CO2 and net climate neutrality, we also focus on environmental, health and safety issues, as well as HR initiatives to become an even more attractive employer. We are glad that our assessment was appreciated.”

Andreas Feichtinger, Executive Director of Plansee, comments: “Thanks to measures such as the gradual conversion of hydrogen production at our main plant, we have been able to prove that we take our sustainability strategy seriously. The EcoVadis rating is proof of this and represents an important milestone for us. However, we also want to use our innovative strength to support and accompany our customers in becoming more sustainable.
