Governor Landry announces appointment of chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board

Baton Rouge, LA – Today, Governor Landry announced the appointment of Christopher Hebert as Chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board. He is the first African American to serve as chairman. This board regulates all gaming activities under its jurisdiction. Ensures the integrity of individual gaming activities by regulating individuals, practices, associations and activities in the gaming industry.

“I am proud to announce the appointment of Christopher Hebert as President of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board. He has the experience and knowledge necessary to properly regulate such a large industry.” said Gov. Jeff Landry. “I look forward to the great work he will do for our state and our economy.”

“Proper regulation of the gaming industry is critical at a time when gaming revenues continue to constitute a significant portion of our state’s economy. I am humbled and humbled by Governor Landry’s selection of me as the first African-American chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, and I pledge to continue the hard work of previous chairmen to ensure gaming is free from criminal and corrupt elements. CHRISTOPHER B. HEBERT, a native of New Roads, Los Angeles, served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Louisiana for over 19 years and as Director of the Gaming Division for the past eight years. Before taking up the position of Director, he served as the Head of the Judicial Proceedings and Jurisprudence Section.

Under his leadership, the Office of the Attorney General assisted the Louisiana Gaming Control Board in crafting regulations to regulate sports betting in Louisiana. He was an innovative leader who spoke on many gaming topics around the world. He was instrumental in establishing the Problem Gambling Resource Services (PGRS) program, operated by the Louisiana Department of Justice, Division of Gaming, in cooperation with the Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Behavioral Health, to increase the legal community’s awareness of problem gambling and the free gambling treatment services available for all Louisianans. He is currently a member of the International Masters of Gaming Law and the National Council on Problem Gambling, where he led an initiative to increase regulatory involvement in responsible gaming.

He is a current board member of the Louisiana Bar Foundation and a member of the House of Delegates of the Louisiana State Bar Association. He is also a former member of the Board of the National Bar Association. Hebert holds a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University and a law degree from Southern University Law Center, where he was honored with the 2022 Distinguished Alumni Award. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
