Clean energy solutions company Gentari partners with Virta to expand the electric vehicle charging market in Southeast Asia

By leveraging Virta’s digital platform services, technology and industry expertise as Gentari deploys and operates EV charging infrastructure, the partners will also work with third parties to ensure EV charging interoperability in the region.

European charging platform Virta has 10 years of experience in electric vehicle charging services which it will bring to the partnership, enabling over 1,000 charging networks to manage their charging activities on the Virta platform in 36 countries, including the most mature electric vehicle markets in Europe. From 2022, Virta has also established itself in Southeast Asia.

Earlier this year, Virta partnered with commercial electric vehicle charger installation and aftersales specialist Devitech to revolutionize electric vehicle fleet management solutions in the UK with an intelligent backend management system for on-site electric vehicle chargers.

In line with its long-term goal to become the leading green mobility solutions partner in the Asia-Pacific region, Gentari is rolling out technologically advanced electric vehicle charging services across the region through its Gentari Go clean energy platform. Launched in Malaysia in February 2024, Gentari Go also offers customers access to chargers in Thailand and Singapore, strengthening Gentari’s leading position in the high-power direct current (DC) charging market. More than 2,400 charging points are already available in three countries, and by the end of 2024, another 2,000 charging points are to be connected in the Gentari Go network.

As Southeast Asia and Oceania accelerate EV penetration, the need for robust charging infrastructure increases. several countries in the region already show a double-digit share of electric vehicles in new car sales. The market in the region is expected to grow much faster than in the US and EU so far as there is already a wide selection of EVs as local and Chinese EV makers enter the market with affordable models to meet demand.
