HK launches new agency promoting cultural and creative industries

The Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) was established in Hong Kong to promote local arts, culture and creative industries.

The new agency, transformed from Create Hong Kong, will support a better environment in Hong Kong and adopt an industry-led approach to further promote the industrialization of the arts, cultural and creative sectors.

In a speech at the opening ceremony, Kevin Yeung, Secretary of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that under Create Hong Kong, over the past 15 years, the eight major creative industries have seen a combined increase in value added from HK$38.7 billion to HK$63.5 billion. . .

CCIDA will strive to create an ecosystem conducive to the development of culture, art and creative industries. This is also in line with the 14th National Five-Year Plan, which aims to transform Hong Kong into a center for international cultural exchange connecting East and West.

Yeung said the aim of establishing the agency is to promote and export Hong Kong’s vibrant cultural and creative offerings, foster new business opportunities and enhance the city’s international status.

“In line with the principle of industry orientation, the agency will help further promote the development of our culture, arts and creative sectors, enabling Hong Kong to position itself as a center for international cultural exchange,” Yeung said.

In addition to ongoing support for various programs, CCIDA will establish a new specialized team to actively assist the industry in expanding overseas markets and strengthening the promotion of intellectual property creation as well as production, thereby creating more business opportunities for the industry and strengthening Hong Kong’s international position.

To facilitate better collaboration between Hong Kong brands and mainland cultural and creative brands, CCIDA has also signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with three leading mainland cultural and creative brands.

Among them, two memorandums of understanding were signed in Beijing on June 19, regarding cooperation in the brand “National Museum of China Innovative” with the National Museum of China (Beijing) Cultural Industry Development and cooperation in the brand “The National Museum of China Innovative” Palace Museum Products cultural and creative Hongkong Space” in cooperation with Guangzhou Tai Lai Digitals Cultural Tourism.

In addition to the video projection of the two signing ceremonies, a Memorandum of Understanding on the cooperation of “Great Wall Cultural Creativity” with Changcheng Cultural and Creative (Beijing) Culture was also signed during the ceremony.
