NTT DATA and Zebra Technologies contribute to global 5G private network deployment through device-as-a-service collaboration

The partnership paves the way for customers like Hyster-Yale Group to explore new applications and leverage the broader 5G ecosystem

LONDON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–NTT DATA, a global leader in IT infrastructure and services, today announced a strategic partnership with Zebra Technologies, a leader in digital solutions, to accelerate innovation in the 5G device ecosystem, laying the foundation for widespread adoption across global industries .

Under this multi-year agreement, NTT DATA and Zebra Technologies will jointly innovate to accelerate the adoption of 5G devices, which is necessary for the implementation of Private 5G technology. Together, the two companies will enable intelligent asset tracking, which enables real-time monitoring and management of assets in industrial and enterprise deployments, providing greater visibility, efficiency and security capabilities critical to supply chain management in Industry 4.0.

One of the key barriers to private 5G adoption is the availability of enterprise 5G devices. This partnership will fill this gap in connected devices in the private 5G enterprise market, which Omdia estimates will grow 35% globally over the next four years to nearly $10 billion by 2028.

Strengthening the private 5G device landscape

The agreement establishes Zebra Technologies as a strategic partner in NTT DATA’s Device-as-a-Service practice, making it easier for customers to access, upgrade and simplify 5G device lifecycle management and support.

Available globally, customers will benefit from continuously modernizing device deployments and the ability to leverage new connectivity solutions with a leading suite of Wi-Fi, private LTE and private 5G compatible devices.

This news follows NTT DATA’s recent collaboration with Qualcomm to accelerate the evolution of the 5G device ecosystem. As enterprises accelerate digital transformation, greater connectivity is needed to support Industry 4.0 applications and AI deployment on edge devices.

Leveraging NTT DATA’s leadership in Private 5G and Zebra Technologies’ expertise in intelligent data integration, asset management and frontline coordination, both companies aim to make the low-latency, high-security features of Private 5G-enabled devices easily accessible for frontline workers in the automotive, manufacturing, healthcare and logistics industries.

“As we continue to drive Private 5G and Edge AI adoption across enterprises, we are excited to join forces with Zebra Technologies globally,” said Shahid Ahmed, Group Executive Vice President, Edge Services at NTT DATA. “This alliance underscores our commitment to providing enterprises with transformational capabilities that drive Edge and Private 5G use cases and data-driven experiences.”

“Our partnership with NTT DATA underscores our commitment to providing customers with the latest Wi-Fi, private LTE and private 5G innovations,” said Julie Johnson, senior vice president and general manager of enterprise mobile computing at Zebra Technologies. “We are excited to leverage NTT DATA’s global scale of capabilities to benefit our customers and become an essential part of the growing 5G device ecosystem, ensuring businesses can thrive in today’s rapidly changing landscape.”

Improved network deployment

NTT DATA deploys private 5G network across Hyster-Yale Group’s manufacturing operations. The Hyster-Yale Group also leverages NTT DATA’s Device as a Service service to gain visibility into assets and materials and improve communication across its facilities. This network will work with Zebra Technologies’ portable mobile computers and tablets to track assets and materials entering and leaving production facilities, providing critical business information while seamlessly connecting engineers, on-site teams, production lines and material storage locations. This all comes together in a cost-effective, large-scale deployment, efficiently managed through NTT DATA’s Device-as-a-Service practice.

“Adding Zebra devices to our storefront has enabled us to purchase devices through our Device as a Service program with NTT DATA, offering much greater SKU customization within the standard device lineup,” said Pierluigi Mastroddi, director of IT Infrastructure Services at Hyster-Yale Group.

Benefits of the device as a service model

NTT DATA’s Device as a Service solution offers customers a comprehensive turnkey solution for managing the entire device lifecycle. It provides expert planning, procurement, configuration, implementation, ongoing support, analysis, repair management and end-of-life, all under the supervision of a trusted partner. This allows customers to benefit from a cost-effective pay-per-user-per-month program model and use technology products on a pay-per-user subscription basis rather than purchasing/owning hardware.
