Amazon will launch a discount section with direct shipping from China, Information reports

(Reuters) – Amazon.com plans to launch a shopping section on its website with low-cost products shipped directly to overseas consumers from warehouses in China, Information reported on Wednesday, citing slides shown to Chinese sellers.

The new marketplace, which is Amazon’s most aggressive response to the growth of bargain sites such as Temu and Shein, will offer unbranded fashion, home and daily essentials, and deliveries to customers in 9 to 11 days, according to the slides. according to the report. .

According to the Information, the e-commerce giant told Chinese sellers in a recent closed-door meeting that it would start registering sellers this summer and accepting inventory in the fall.

Amazon did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment on the report.

Sellers who join the deal site can decide product selection and pricing, and produce in small batches to test demand for new products they plan to launch, the report added.

It is unclear whether these shipments will be made under U.S. trade rules, which exempt individual packages worth less than $800 from U.S. tariffs.

Shein, an e-commerce powerhouse that is trying to expand its market share before going public, and PDD Group’s online retailer Temu are relying on the expedited customs clearance process, which is available for direct-to-consumer shipments worth up to $800.
