Amazon will reportedly launch a discount section with direct shipping from China

(Reuters) – Amazon.com plans to launch a shopping section on its website with cheap products shipped directly to overseas consumers from warehouses in China, Information reported on Wednesday, citing slides shown to Chinese sellers.

The new marketplace, which is Amazon’s most aggressive response to the growth of bargain sites like Temu and Shein, will feature unbranded fashion, home and daily essentials, with products delivered to customers between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., according to the slides. days. the report stated.

According to the Information, the e-commerce giant told Chinese sellers in a recent closed-door meeting that it would start registering sellers this summer and accepting inventory in the fall.

Sellers joining the deal site can specify the selection and price of products, and can also produce in small batches to gauge demand for new products they plan to launch, the report adds.

“We’re always looking for new ways to work with our retail partners to delight our customers with more choice, lower prices and greater convenience,” an Amazon spokesperson told Reuters when asked to comment on the report.

It is unclear whether these shipments will be made under U.S. trade rules, which exempt individual packages worth less than $800 from U.S. tariffs.

Shein, an e-commerce powerhouse that is trying to expand its market share before going public, and PDD Group’s online retailer Temu are relying on the expedited customs clearance process, which is available for direct-to-consumer shipments worth up to $800.
