The State Government’s $128.5 million investment will support the initial planning of the logistics precinct at Newcastle Harbor, where large and heavy items will be stored and then loaded for delivery to construction sites.

The initial road upgrade will prioritize the route from Newcastle Port to the Orana Central West Renewable Energy Zone near Dubbo.

Part of the route will also be used for transportation to the New England Renewable Energy Zone.

NSW Minister for Climate Change and Energy Penny Sharpe said the government’s investment had benefited the state.

“The $128.5 million in the 2024-25 budget will not only improve the roads we drive on, but also ensure that more renewable energy projects are built, which will lower energy bills.

“To build the solar and wind farms and our new transmission network, we will need trucks to transport the components to the construction sites.
“The modernization of roads ensures that deliveries can be made quickly and safely.”

New South Wales Minister of State for Hunter, Yasmin Catley, said: “Hunter is key to the transformation of our energy system and investments like these will ensure our region thrives into the future.

“Port to Project will modernize our road network, making it safer for all drivers, and create a logistics hub at the Port of Newcastle.”

Individual developers of renewable energy projects will have to ensure that vehicles can travel on additional local roads leading to investment sites.
