India ready to invest INR 2000 crore in energy mobility prospects

In India, during Energy Storage Week (IESW) 2024, India will provide over INR 2,000 crore in investment opportunities in the energy storage, electric vehicles (EV) and green hydrogen sectors. This annual event will be hosted by India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA). a flagship international event taking place from July 1-5, 2024 in New Delhi, providing a platform for multiple factory and Gigafactory announcements that will support India’s mission to become a global manufacturing hub.

IESW 2024, an international conference and exhibition, is expected to attract over 150 key partners and exhibitors and over 1,000 companies. During the press conference, IESA highlighted the anticipated investments and announced new plant investments that will strengthen India’s position as a global leader in energy storage and clean technology.

IESW 2024 will be the launchpad for several new products, including a 20-meter battery energy storage system (BESS), specialized solvent extractions for recovering cobalt from used lithium-ion batteries, and isothermal air compression technology for long-term energy storage.

More than five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and partnership agreements are also expected to be signed at the event, including a significant MoU between IESA and Powering Australia. During the event, government officials will present three key white papers on graphite used in batteries, raw material availability and electrification of mobility in India.

The event has received confirmation of participation from over 10 central ministries and bodies, including Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Ministry of Power (MoP), Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) and NITI Aayog. In addition, international participation will include domestic partners such as Australia, Norway and Finland, with the Government of Western Australia as global state partner.

IESW 2024 will feature over 10 parallel sessions organized by various partners, including the Long-Term Energy Storage Council, the Indo-German Energy Forum and the International Solar Alliance. The event will also be attended by over 50 start-ups, over 10 incubators and leading investors as part of the Start-Up Day and Founders Round Table program.

The highlight will be the Women in Energy Forum, co-hosted by the German Energy Forum, which will bring together over 200 female leaders from the energy storage, electric mobility and green hydrogen sectors.
